Heinz Optical Engineering, LLC, is Eric and Martha Heinz.
Eric does the engineering and Martha does everything else.

Eric Heinz began developing spectrometers in graduate school to use for his own research.

He then began designing research-grade spectrometers for production at Spex Industries, now a part of Horiba JY. At Spex he developed Raman, microRaman, and infrared Raman systems, building block spectrometers and spectrographs, and the first generation FluoroMax fluorometer. The FluoroMax, now FluoroMax 4, is still in production after twenty years.

Mr Heinz began developing bioassay readers at Abbott Laboratories, where he was an internal optical consultant. He worked on a clinical chemistry spectrograph, fluorescence polarization immunoassay readers, fluorometers for immunoassays and for genetic probe assays, and a chemiluminescence reader.

At Nanogen Mr Heinz designed two micro bioarray fluorescence readers for production. The first was a laser-PMT scanner. The second was an LED-CCD imager.

As an independent consultant since January 2003 he has helped his clients to develop many kinds of bioassay readers, spectrometers, illumination systems, and radiometers.
